“‘Come,’ he said. So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, ‘Lord, save me.’” - Matthew 14:29-30 (ESV)

Staying Focused Amid Life's Distractions

It’s so easy to get caught up in everything going on around us. The busyness of life, the noise of the world, and the unexpected challenges we face can make it difficult to keep our eyes on what God has called us to do. When we lose focus, we can end up drifting away from His purpose for our lives.

Consider Peter’s story. When Jesus called him to step out of the boat and walk on water, Peter responded with faith and took that bold step. And as long as he kept his focus on Jesus, he did exactly what he was called to do—he walked on water. But the moment Peter’s attention shifted to the wind and the waves around him, he began to sink. Isn’t that how it often is for us? We start out with excitement and faith, ready to follow God's call, but then the storms of life come along, and suddenly we’re not walking in our purpose like we were before. We lose sight of Jesus and start focusing on the problems. But just like with Peter, Jesus is always there to reach out and lift us up. We just need to refocus, trust Him, and keep moving forward.

So today, let’s take a moment to pause and ask: What’s distracting me from what God has called me to do? Am I letting the wind and waves of life pull my attention away from the One who has given me a purpose? Let’s commit to keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus. When we stay focused on Him, we can walk confidently in the gifts and purpose He’s given us, no matter what storms come our way.
