Love God - Love people. Sounds so simple, but here we are, every day, struggling to understand what it means. I get it.

So what do we do?

I’m going to give you the only answer I know: walk forward the best we can. It’s all we can do. And the beautiful thing? God’s grace takes care of the rest.

It may sound too simplistic. But I get the feeling that’s how it’s supposed to be.

When you are not sure if you are walking in your calling, ask yourself these two questions:

• How am I loving God today?

• How am I loving others today?

(For that second question maybe you need to get more specific. Enter someone’s name. And I’m going to give you a hint…it may not always be the easy person you want it to be.)

We often get grandiose ideas of what calling looks like. It’s easy to look for people who make a big difference, give up everything, and have the numbers (or passport stamps) to prove it.

But that’s us using our measuring sticks. And I’m going to tell you a secret about those measuring sticks:

Measuring sticks get us into trouble.

How do I know?

I’ve never used one and felt good about it.

Measuring sticks either makes us feel good (at the expense of someone else who doesn’t measure up) or makes us feel bad (at our own expense). I've yet to find a Bible verse that tells us to compare, measure up, or build pedestals.

God isn't measuring. He's not comparing your calling to mine. He's not counting the minutes on your knees or the countries you've been to.

If we’re not measuring what does it look like to pursue our calling in real life? Let's start by asking God.

Lord, show me what it looks like to pursue Your call on my life. Show me how to love You and love others today. Amen.

“Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭12‬ ‭ESV‬‬
