Request for Restoration

“Forgive me for shedding blood, O God who saves; then I will joyfully sing of your forgiveness. Unseal my lips, O Lord, that my mouth may praise you. You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one. You do not want a burnt offering. The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.”

‭‭- Psalms‬ ‭51‬:‭14‬-‭17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

In the wake of his adulterous affair with Bash Sheba, which also lead to his murder of her husband, David was a broken man. We should be so broken as David when we sin. A broken spirit that is open to the reality of sin and the need for forgiveness and change is of far greater value to God than sacrifice. David tells God he is deserving of divine judgment and humbly asked for the joy of his salvation to be restored.

It is a model of repentance to follow for each of us who sin every day.
