“When Jesus heard it, He said to them, ‘Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.’”
Mark 2:17 NKJV
Grace for the Unworthy
The prophet Hosea didn’t marry someone who had the right to wear a traditional white dress. He didn’t marry a virgin. In fact, she was a prostitute. Yet, he had to pursue her again and again, just as Jesus continually pursues His people.
When God accepts us, He accepts us as sinners who fall short of His holy standard. That’s the only way we can come to Him. If you don’t come to God as a sinner, you can’t come to Him at all. Grace is for the graceless. The Gospel is for the unworthy. Without Jesus, we are all unworthy.
After you have received rest and peace, God transforms the things you love. That’s grace too. He pursues you just like Hosea pursued his wife, whose heart was bent on running away in shame.
