The Power of Prayer
“Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.” - Ephesians 6:18 NLT
In Costa Rica, there is a little red frog whose legs are colored denim blue, earning him the nickname "the blue jeans frog." These cute little guys are smaller than your big toenail and adorably colorful—but you’d better not mess with Mr. Blue Jeans! These frogs contain powerful toxins that can cause convulsions, paralysis, and even death. It’s said, “One of those can kill eight of you!” Oh, they may seem small, but they are a big threat.
The same is true of you when you pray. The devil might seem like a giant compared to little old you, but God has made you a big threat to the forces of evil in this world. You are clothed in Jesus—a toxin to the father of lies and a venom that poisons that ancient serpent. When you pray, you communicate with the God of all creation and tap into His mighty power to direct your future. Whenever you speak in Jesus’ name, a little prayer becomes a very big deal.
Thinking of your next spiritual battle, Paul urges you to “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests” (Ephesians 6:18). In the original Greek, Paul closely connects your prayers with your ability to stand firm against demonic attacks. So, cover today’s schedule, tasks, and conversations in prayer.
Once you do, the devil better watch his step!
